“My wife and I worked with Amanda Fedora to do a full interior redesign of a 30 year old house we bought in 2020. Amanda met with us at our house for a consultation where we walked through the house together and outlined our vision for the space, including removing a load bearing wall to create an open concept floor plan, and updating our second floor to better utilize the space and create an extra bedroom to add value to our home.
Amanda provided us with multiple layouts and design renderings at our preliminary design meeting, and helped us finalize the perfect floor plan for our new home. She was invaluable during the material selection process, working with our contractor's budgeted allowance to help us select our plumbing, lighting, tile, flooring, countertops, millwork, moulding, doors, and hardware finishes. Amanda must have spent over a month sourcing all the different finishes listed above to provide us with multiple options, and we essentially picked all of our final finishes in one 2 hour meeting, it was a fun and exciting process that was made seamless and stress free all because of her hard work.
Amanda also produced high quality construction drawings for our building permit application, and a very detailed specifications binder for our contractor. As a structural engineer myself, I greatly appreciated the level of detail in the drawing package as it made the construction process especially the finishing stages of our renovation very smooth. Using the Houzz app, we sourced a design-build professional in our area which is how we met Amanda. Our initial meeting was a site visit and walkthrough of the house where we pointed out likes and dislikes, and created a design "wish list". Using the Houzz app we shared an Ideabook with Amanda which was is a great way of visually showing our design preferences using photos and quick comments. Amanda presented us with design options using a 3D design software which allows you to "see" the rooms from different angles making it really easy to view and discuss how the room will look and function, and choose the design. Wow! The design she created was amazing encompassing all of our wishes and more. Then a complete package of Construction Drawings was created for the builder. Throughout the renovation, Amanda was invaluable and efficient guiding us through the extensive product decisions required within the budget we set, and that met the build timelines.

It seems that everyone we talked to about a renovations project complained about how difficult it was, how hard it was to find a contractor, and how unhappy they were with the work that was done. We experienced none of that, and attribute our extremely positive experience to Amanda!
She started with a walk through our space and a conversation with us about what we wanted to have done. She took meticulous and detailed notes and measurements of our home and used that as the basis to plan our new space. She did this in enough detail for the city to approve the permits and for the contractor and the trades to be able to plan all of their work. We provided her with some clippings that we liked from magazines and the web. She developed a plan that met our needs and a design that was consistent with our taste and desires. She invited us to her design studio to choose exactly what we wanted and sourced the materials. So much easier that having to drive to a bunch of stores to choose the colours and designs for the walls, plumbing fixtures, tiles, lighting and cabinets. It was a breeze! We did most of it in one afternoon!
Amanda identified a contractor that she had worked with, and they worked from the plans and details that she provided, including the location of all of the fixtures, light switches, plumbing, electrical outlets, and cabinets. She was available to us throughout the process, beyond the initial design phase, and helped clarify what would look best for us in our environment.

“My husband and I needed a designer for our (almost) full house reno as there was no way we wanted to tackle our project alone. The project included our entire top floor (kitchen, two bathrooms, dining, family, tv areas and master bedroom) as well as our downstairs entryway and stairs. We saw the outstanding design Amanda created in our neighbour’s home and when we asked our contractor, Philip Rechsteiner, for some designers he would recommend, he right away suggested Amanda.
After our first meeting with Amanda, we were satisfied and knew there was no need to look any further. Amanda was personable, a great listener, and if you check out her website you will see how beautiful the spaces are that she has designed. During our initial walk-through of our space, we shared with Amanda what wasn’t working for us and needed changing. We’d been living with a very unfunctional kitchen for 20 years but couldn’t figure out a layout that would work in our awkward space. Amanda listened to our concerns and asked thoughtful questions, which helped us think about what else our space needed that we hadn’t even considered. Amanda also asked us to gather some inspiration pictures to help her get a sense of our style and vision.
Amanda took all this information and during our second meeting she presented us with potential layouts. We were very impressed with her ideas. The option we ended up choosing for our kitchen gave us more counter space, cabinetry/storage and function than we thought was possible AND it was a beautiful design. An added benefit is that Amanda uses 3D renderings to convey her ideas, which really helped us visualize our newly designed home.
At our third meeting, Amanda presented us with material choices that she had carefully selected and were within the style we were looking to achieve. She spent a great deal of time with us, and I especially appreciate how patient she was, as I find decisions difficult and can be so indecisive. We went away from the meeting feeling happy and relaxed. We took a couple more weeks to mull over and nail down our choices and we are very happy with our final selections.
Amanda continued to be available for any questions (we had MANY!) or changes we wanted to make and was always prompt with her replies.
Also, one of the workers on our site praised Amanda for her detailed drawings. He said that with some designers you might have to do some guess work when it comes to measurements, layout, etc., but with Amanda, the plans are always well laid out and easy to follow. This is not only a compliment to Amanda’s attention to detail, but also means you get what you are expecting from your builder!

It was such a pleasure to work with Amanda on the design of my recent kitchen and living room reno. She helped me to translate the feel of the space that I was trying to achieve and didn't compromise on kitchen efficiency. The biggest issue we had to work with were these two pain-in-the-butt support posts right in the middle of the space! She was so creative (and patient) and after a few back and forth's in designing to incorporate them she nailed it! Not only did I get dining and living room comfort and kitchen functionality, i also get so many complements on the shelves she designed to incorporate the posts as if they were built as a feature, not a necessity! “I moved here from the east coast and was looking for a house that would accommodate myself, my sister, and my nephew. We wanted something that would suit us now, but also allow us to stay in our own home if we become in need of care. We found nothing on the market and Amanda Fedora of Reside Design Studio was recommended as a professional interior designer who could work with our limited ideas and produce plans and a house that would suit our needs and fit our budget.
Working with Amanda was amazing. We gave her very little input into the design - we knew we wanted two large master bedrooms on the main floor with wheelchair accessibility on the entire floor and in one of the ensuite bedrooms. My sister and I each wanted a private area that we could escape to and have a cozy haven. We wanted two bedrooms upstairs with a family room on the second floor as well.
With little more than that Amanda created the perfect house. It is bright and open with lots of storage space and visual appeal.
Amanda listened to our ideas and ramblings as we tried to imagine a home that would suit our hopes now, but still allow for an unknown future. She was extremely patient with us as we talked through colour schemes and room organization. She took a few jumbled thoughts and designed a house. Then she listened as we revised and revisited our original ideas. She has been a paragon of patience through it all.
Amanda’s 3D plans and drawings enabled us to visualize more clearly the concepts and features she added to give the house a unique look and a comfortable feel. Her sense of colour and design give the house a soothing flow from room to room. There is a serenity and a peacefulness that come from her amazing ability to take a few random thoughts and create a building which perfectly suits the lot and has no jarring features.
Amanda oversaw the plans, worked with the architect, and ensured that everything was up to code for the building permit. We were able to relax and know that she would ensure that everything would be done competently.
We have had a couple of setbacks in starting the build which are not related to Amanda's work whatsoever. I am looking forward to getting this dream home finished and moving in. In working with Amanda so far, I have no doubt that as the build progresses, she is more than able and willing to help us achieve a final product that we will love.
