The Design Process

Every successful renovation or new construction starts with communication. We begin each new project with a consultation to discuss at length the specific needs for the task ahead. From the information gathered, we are able to formulate a plan and provide the client with a design proposal for their review. As each client and project is unique, an initial consultation is required for RESIDE Design Studio Inc to accurately gauge the full scope of work. We have carefully and strategically developed a SIX-STEP DESIGN PROCESS to guide you through the journey ahead seemlessly and comprehensively.

  • 1. INITIAL CONSULTATION

This is our ‘first date’ if you may, where we learn about each other, discuss at length your needs and determine if RESIDE Design Studio is the right fit for your upcoming project. In this meeting we go over the scope, style, needs, desires, budget, timeline, and any other information pertaining to the project. We encourage our clients to gather inspiration in preparation for this meeting.

  • 2. CHOOSING RESIDE

RESIDE Design Studio will present a design proposal and package quote based on the information gathered during the initial consultation. Every design proposal is tailored to each clients specific needs and is held in the highest regard. Acceptance and signing of the design proposal is all RESIDE needs to get started on turning your vision into a reality.

  • 3. PRELIMINARY DESIGN PHASE

RESIDE Design Studio will conceptualize design solutions to present to the client using 3D software to help the client realise the potential of their space. In this meeting, the designer and client fine tune the functionality, while also taking into account the aesthetic and cohesiveness of what will be the finished product. Revisions are completed in this phase to determine the overall scope of work for a rough budget to be formulated.

  • 4. ROUGH BUDGET DRAWINGS

At RESIDE Design Studio we believe this step plays a pivotal role in achieving efficiency in the design process. Before moving forward with material/fixture selection, a set of drawings with basic notes for the overall design are created to be quoted on by your contractor. This budget contains allowances which we reference during material/fixture selection to keep your project on budget and allows you to make informed selections.

  • 5. MATERIAL & FIXTURE SELECTION

The design comes to life during this phase as the designer strives to infuse the clients’ unique personality into the space. This is the fun part! Samples and options for all materials & fixtures required in the space are carefully curated and organized for a comprehensive presentation at RESIDE Design Studio. The selections are then organized into a storyboard for the client to visualize the overall concept of their space.

  • 6. FINAL DESIGN PACKAGE

All of the details and decisions curated during the design process are now compiled into a thorough design package to portray the complete vision to be constructed. RESIDE Design Studio will produce working construction drawings (permit ready if required), a material & fixture checklist and a specification binder to be on site and referenced by the contractor and trades. During construction RESIDE will perform frequent site visits.
